THE MEN IN BLUE!
June 13, 2007
I wrote this one on a night when the weight of the patch felt heavier than usual—not just mine, but theirs too. We worked alongside the cops all the time, shared scenes, swapped gallows humor, and stood shoulder to shoulder in the worst moments. But that night, I saw something in their eyes—exhaustion, maybe, or a kind of hardened grief they’d never admit to. It reminded me that we weren’t so different. All of us trying to hold the line in a city that never stopped bleeding. I needed to write this post because too often, people forget that behind the Kevlar and the tough talk, there are human beings carrying impossible things. This one was for them.
