Program Overview

An Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) / Beta Reader Program is an early draft of a book shared with a small group of trusted readers before publication. The goal is simple: get clear, honest feedback while there is still time to make the story better. You are reading The Devil’s Ledger in this stage, before it’s finalized, polished, or sent out into the world.

This is not a promotion team or a hype exercise. It’s a collaboration. ARC readers help spot what works, what doesn’t, what feels unclear, rushed, or unbelievable. If something pulls you out of the story, I want to know. Thoughtful criticism here directly shapes the final book.

    • Early digital access to The Devil’s Ledger (EPUB or PDF) before public release.

    • Behind-the-scenes insight into the revision process, including what changes and why.

    • Priority notification when the book officially launches, before the general public.

    • A signed copy by the author.

  • This program is for serious readers only. By volunteering, you agree to the following:

    • Read the entire manuscript, not just selected sections.

    • Provide clear, honest feedback, especially where the story breaks down.

    • Flag issues, including:

      • Plot holes or points of confusion.

      • Pacing problems (slow, rushed, or uneven sections).

      • Dialogue or scenes that feel unrealistic.

      • Technical or medical inaccuracies.

      • Moments that feel dull, implausible, or unearned.

    • Submit feedback by the stated deadline.

You do not need to be a professional editor. You do need to be attentive, candid, and reliable. Thoughtful criticism is what makes this book better.

  • Let’s be clear:

    • This is not a beta test for casual skimming or speed-reading.

    • This is not an invitation to rewrite the book in your own voice or style.

    • This is not a guaranteed ARC acceptance or a free advance copy for everyone who applies.

I’m looking for thoughtful readers who respect the work, the process, and the time it takes to shape a book properly.

  • ARC copies are confidential and unpublished.

By participating in this program, you agree to the following terms:

    • Do not share, forward, upload, distribute, or publicly quote any portion of the manuscript

    • Do not post reviews, ratings, excerpts, or commentary anywhere (including social media, Goodreads, blogs, or forums) prior to the official release date

    • Use the ARC exclusively for private reading and constructive feedback to the author

Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in immediate removal from the program and disqualification from any future ARC or beta reader opportunities.

  • You’re a strong fit if you:

    • Regularly read thrillers, literary fiction, or medical- and EMS-adjacent stories
    • Appreciate dark, grounded, realistic storytelling over polish or sentiment
    • Care about pacing, structure, and narrative tension
    • Can articulate why something didn’t work, not just that it didn’t
    • Are comfortable giving direct, honest feedback—even when it’s critical

    Bonus (helpful but not required):

    • Background in EMS, medicine, military, or first response
    • Experience with writing, editing, or publishing
    • Prior ARC or beta-reader experience

  • ARC spots are intentionally limited.

Not every applicant will be selected. Priority is given to readers who demonstrate:

    • Thoughtful, specific feedback

    • Relevant experience (writing, editing, EMS, healthcare, or close reading)

    • A clear understanding that ARC reading means critical engagement, not casual consumption

If selected, you’ll receive an email with access instructions, timelines, and clear expectations for feedback delivery.
